The Story Behind the Painting

This recent 24x30 painting took about three days to paint in the studio.  After a trip to the canyons of the Texas Panhandle, I used my photo as reference and painted quickly while the experience was fresh in my memory.  I toned the canvas with Indian Yellow to capture the heat of the day.  Varieties of greens were mixed to capture the light and shadows of the plants.  The intense blue added to the sky was needed to combat the yellow underpainting.
